Music Monday – JP Hoe

I’m a big fan of JP Hoe, a talented singer-songwriter from Winnipeg.  I first met him at the WCMA’s in Brandon a few years ago, and was immediately impressed – he’s got a great voice, sings in tune (yes, that’s still an important trait), and pens catchy, honest songs.

I’ve heard JP a number of times over the past few years, and on Friday night I got the chance to hear him at a friend’s house concert.  It was my first time (I know, I’ve lived a boring, sheltered life), and I can definitely see the appeal – you get up-close and personal with the artist, the drinks are cheap, the food is good, and the audience is respectful.  At least, I think we were…

While these types of concerts have been going on for a long time, there are groups that are now helping to bring touring musicians and hosts together.  Home Routes, for example, has expanded its operations in recent years and now has a network pretty much across the country.

If you still want to get your music fix in a club, you can catch JP on tour throughout Ontario and the Maritimes over the next few weeks.  If my endorsement hasn’t persuaded you, perhaps his latest video will.
