No story – I just really like this picture of A and me.

Home Alone
My fourth day as a single parent is drawing to a close. The boys are sound asleep, my dinner is in the oven, and the last load of laundry is almost dry. I think I’ve got the Mr. Mom thing down, at least in short bursts.
After dinner Aidan and I built our biggest train track to date. I don’t know who has more fun with this, him or me. The Thomas stuff may be pricey, but I think it’s one of the best toys for fostering creativity and imagination.
My Wife Done Left Me
That’s right, my wife done left me. She snuck out of the house in the wee hours of the mornin’ with her boss, and now they’re holed up in some fancy schmancy resort (White Oaks) in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
So, it’s just me and the boys at home for the next few days. We’ll be eating pizza, watching hockey, making fart jokes, and all the other good stuff that boys get up to when they’re not supervised. I just hope that A and K don’t figure out that I’m outnumbered, or else it will be game over. They may be small, but they can be tenacious, ruthless, and downright ornery. B’s likely to come home to find me tied up in the basement while they eat cookies and watch Cars on an endless loop.
The Soundtrack of my Life
Maurizio recently tagged me in a recent post on his blog. We’re playing a little game called If My Life Was a Movie, What Would the Soundtrack Be?
To paraphrase another blogger, you put your iPod on shuffle and write the name of each song that comes up in sequence against a specific list of scenes in your life – also in sequence. So, using my spankin’ new iPod, here’s what I came up with:
Opening credits Cheating on You – Franz Ferdinand
First day of school I Am Weary (Let Me Rest) – The Cox Family
Falling in love Hopelessly Devoted to Them – The Housemartins
Prom/GradYour Ex-Lover is Dead – Stars
Mental breakdown Twist My Arm – The Tragically Hip
Flashbacks Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles
Getting back togetherBonny Portmore – Loreena McKennitt
Wedding scene He Used to Cut the Grass – Frank Zappa
Final battle Disco Boy – Frank Zappa
Death scene Old Brown’s Daughter – Great Big Sea
Funeral scene Ecclesiastes: Free My Heart – Me’Shell Ndegéocello
End credits Over on Fourth Street – Pat Metheny
FinaleLovin’ U – Alicia Keys
Well, some of those are interesting – others are just plain weird. Over to you, Mr. Anderson. Would you care to play?
Say Uncle
When my brother Kyle called me last night and asked to speak with “Uncle C”, it took me a couple of seconds to figure it out. “I’m not an uncle, why did you say… Oh my God you’re having a baby!”
Yes, the Dearlove clan is expanding again. Sue is due in early August (as an August baby myself, I can confirm that it is the best time of year to be born). It’s going to be a lot of fun hearing about their experiences over the next few months.
A is pretty excited about the whole thing. He’s been talking for a while about wanting a cousin, and he even brought it up over breakfast when we were visiting Kyle and Sue over Christmas. I’m impressed that they were able to resist telling us right there and then.
So, Uncle C and Auntie B – kinda has a nice ring to it.
